Schools: Yale, BA Economics and African American Studies, 2003
Columbia Law, JD, 2008
Organization: The Ivy Editor; Cultivating Aspiring Leaders
Title: Attorney, Founder

Charlotte A. Lewis is a corporate attorney, a philanthropist, and an entrepreneur. After growing up in Houston, Texas, Ms. Lewis moved to Connecticut and, in 2003, graduated from Yale University with degrees in Economics and African American Studies. During a time when Sarbanes Oxley was overwhelming US corporations, Ms. Lewis was a Compliance Coordinator for MetLife, where she conducted internal audits and trained financial services representatives to conduct client due diligence and exercise non-misleading sales practices. In 2008, Ms. Lewis received a J.D. from Columbia Law. She currently practices corporate law in New York City, primarily serving alternative investment firms, assisting them with fund formation. She also serves many non-profits and small entrepreneurs, assisting them with formation, intellectual property and general liability issues, corporate governance, and various contracts.

In 2008, Ms. Lewis also founded Cultivating Aspiring Leaders (www.calfoundation.org), whose mission is to train high-potential teens and young adults who have demonstrated a passion for and willingness to give back to and be active leaders, educators, and mentors within their communities. The organization's flagship program is the Leadership Training Institute (LTI), a training program designed to endow students with the skills they need to be strong future leaders. LTI will help students become familiar with their own leadership styles and will introduce them to the various characteristics exuded by today's most successful leaders, such as emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and professional self-awareness and branding. In addition, through the Charles James Bate, M.D. Chairman's Scholarship, the organization has awarded $15,000 in rewards. Ms. Lewis serves as the President and General Counsel.

Ms. Lewis is also the owner of The Ivy Editor (www.theivyeditor.com), an admissions essay editing service that offers weekly essay writing tips and helps students distinguish themselves from other applicants. The Ivy Editor partners with clients to push their critical and creative thinking, explore their experiences and position their strengths and experiences in a way that highlights what they bring to academic institutions. The Ivy Editor has helped students gain acceptance into several prestigious schools, including Brown University, Duke, Emory, and Harvard Business School.
