Ms. Smith is Of Counsel to Sills, Cummis, Radin, Tischman, Epstein and Gross and practices in the
Firm's Employment and Labor Department in Newark, New Jersey. Her current practice involves defending
corporate clients in employment discrimination, wrongful discharge and other employment-related
litigation.
Prior to joining Sills Cummis, Ms. Smith served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the
Eastern District of New York, Civil Division. While an AUSA, Ms. Smith served as lead defense counsel
to the Government in a variety of employment discrimination cases and prosecuted a variety of civil
and criminal forfeiture matters resulting in millions of dollars in forfeited assets returned to the
government and to victims. Ms. Smith has received numerous awards from a variety of federal agencies
for her excellence in handling Federal litigation.
Ms. Smith is a member of numerous state and Federal Bar Association committees and is currently the
Co-Chair of the Sexual Harassment Sub-Committee of the ABA's Litigation Section. She also serves on the
Association of the Bar of the City of New York's Government Ethics Committee. She has recently been
appointed to a 3 year term on the Association's Labor and Employment Law Committee beginning in
September.
Active in the community, Ms. Smith serves on the Executive Board of the American Diabetes Association's
Rainbow Gala Committee, an outreach group involved with fund raising and healthcare issues specific to
the African-American and Hispanic Communities.
As a result of her extensive work with at Dartmouth College on behalf of minority undergraduate students,
alumni and applicants, Ms. Smith was recently honored with the Dartmouth College Young Alumni Award.
Ms. Smith is the former President, Black Alumni of Dartmouth Association.
Ms. Smith also serves on the Leadership Board of the Villanova Law Alumni Association of Greater
New York City.
Additionally, Ms. Smith was recently awarded the 40 under Forty Achievement Award by the Network Journal,
a black professional and small business magazine.
