Gailon McGowen, a graduate of the University of Houston and Columbia Law School, is the owner of Hunterdon BMW, in New Jersey. While at Columbia, Gailon served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review. Following law school, Gailon clerked for the Honorable Damon J. Keith, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He also worked as a staff attorney in the Voting Section of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, and was a litigator in the Voting Rights Project of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.

Gailon entered the automotive field after serving as the Legal Counsel to former United States Senator Bill Bradley in Washington D.C. Gailon McGowen, the first African American BMW dealer in the country, purchased Hunterdon BMW in 1999. Since taking over, Hunterdon BMW has been one of the fastest growing BMW Centers in the New York tri-state area. It has an excellent reputation for service and is ranked among the top thirty BMW dealerships nationwide (out of 366 dealerships) in customer satisfaction. The dealership, the only exclusive BMW Center in Hunterdon County, has 28 employees and is active in charitable community activities. It is located at Route 22, approximately 10 miles west of Bridgewater and approximately one hour west of New York City.

Gailon is married to Lorraine McGowen, a graduate of Columbia Law School and a Partner in charge of the Financial Transactions Practice Group at the New York office of Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe. They have four daughters, including a set of triplets. In addition to a busy family life, Gailon is involved with the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association, the Washington State Bar Association, the National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers, the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, the Columbia Law School Alumni Association and the University of Houston Alumni Association. He also is active in the American Cancer Society and is a volunteer at the Princeton Montessori School and with Legal Outreach, Inc..
