Description: We're pleased to announce the launch of Rising Ivy - The Black Ivy Alumni League's Breakfast Network. Rising Ivy is a platform to strengthen our professional and entrepreneurial connections within our community.

Networking is not about chatting with the person next to you at the cheese plate, networking is about building a solid group of trusted contacts to provide resources and connections and who will advocate for you to be the recipient of opportunities and where you do the same. This is the start of a simple but powerful format to enabling our community to build a productive network.

Events will be limited to 20 attendees. Everyone will get 15-30 seconds to introduce yourself, describe what you do, and provide our signature "offer and ask" what you can offer the group (usually something for free i.e. a job, an introduction, free professional advice) and what you are asking for (advice for a startup, contacts for a real estate venture, a specific kind of client, help finding a new hire or a job).

Behind the scenes, we will curate attendance for every event to ensure we have a group of diverse industries, backgrounds, and schools, new vs. repeat attendees, and to help you meet the ideal business contact you indicate below. Our hosts will help facilitate introductions -- as should you! This event is intended for savvy networkers and we encourage each attendee to faciliate introductions both during and beyond the event.

Each month a Black Ivy Alumni Legaue corporate sponsor will host the event and help facilitate introductions.

This month's event is being sponsored and hosted by CommuniTree LLC.

For inquiries regarding your company hosting a breakfast, please email Jezabel Paulino, Columbia Business School '09 at jezabel.paulino@mssb.com.

This information will be distributed to all attendees so we can consider each other's offers and asks before the event.
So make it good! Some tips...

When crafting your "Offer" make it something that is free and that you would be happy to do for every attendee. It could be related to work, a hobby or an experience you've had i.e. buying a home.

When crafting your "Ask" make it something very specific. For example if you're looking for clients don't just say "clients" but describe the type of client - specific industry, amount of revenue, particular need, location, age etc.. The more specific you are the easier it is for attendees to recognize a good match for you.
